Facebook Connect for Comments

August 5th, 2009

Although I’m not completely sold on the usefulness of Facebook Connect, it seems I can’t go a day without somebody asking me about it. Hence, as a little experiment, I’ve implemented the API here to allow you to make comments on this site with your Facebook account. What can I say, I can’t help myself.

Let me know what you think about Facebook Connect, and its many appications.

  • Well, let’s see what this FB Connect business is all about…

  • I like it. Easier to use and understand than OpenID, and gives people context about who I am and a handy way of using a profile photo.

  • One downside appears to be that you can’t see the avatars, or names unless you’re logged in to Facebook. Unless that’s a flaw in how I’ve implemented it. Will investigate further.

  • Looks like commenter avatars and names are affected by the user’s Facebook privacy settings. Good to know if you’re planning on using FBC to comment on blogs, you’ll need to open up your search privacy if you want it to work properly.

  • Awesome blog. Got to this going about your CI Auth Class. :D
