What have I been up to?
My entire career has been putting web technology to work for a wide variety of clients. I have developed solutions for organizations including Pfizer, Eisai, Turner Broadcasting, Universal Music Canada, University of Toronto, and London Reinsurance Group.
In early 2001, I developed an interactive online team-building application for Pfizer, breaking new ground in the online training field. Around the same time, I lead the development of Ridemonkey.com, an online mountain biking community that incorporated forums, classified ads, photo sharing and blogs. I forged new territory, convincing cycling enthusiasts that blogging their riding experiences would reap rewards long before blogs had become a mainstream means of communication.
In 2005, I was commissioned to develop a utility for Universal Music Canada to facilitate royalty claims for its artists — a first of its kind in the music industry. In the next three and a half years I went on to completely overhaul the technology behind the UMC web presence. This included building a custom centralized CMS to manage core marketing sites, designing artist microsites, integrating an online mobile ringtone purchasing API, developing a scaling strategy, and implementing extensive performance enhancements such as caching and front-end optimization.
In 2007, I took on a new challenge, joining VuMe.com as the lead developer of a social audio, video and photo sharing site. I took VuMe from a nest of hashed together open source packages and converted it into a unified, scalable system, capable of handling continuous bursts of traffic from major media outlets, as well as the natural growth of the user base.
